Artist-in-Resident at the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika: Art Helping Kids in Africa

Art does not need justification, nobody has to be excused for making art…

Robert Omundi, Resident Artist at the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika, has a goal:

To inspire, disciple and enable vulnerable children, orphans and street children to use their creative & artistic abilities throughout Africa and the world.

Raised and educated in Kenya, Robert has travelled widely and displayed his art in the following countries:

o Kenya
o Zanzibar Island, Tanzania
o Dar es salaam; Masai Mara in Tanzania.
o Pemba and Maputo in Mozambique
o Nkatha Bay in Malawi
o Livingstone in Zambia
o Kampala in Uganda
o Kigali in Rwanda

As well, he has sold his artworks in different parts of the world,  including the USA. Canada, South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

I am using my gift of painting to raise money for my vision of helping orphans and street children in Africa. I paint these beautiful images of African life and sell them to keep moving forward with this vision in mind.

The following shares both the art and ideas of Robert:

Art has its own meaning. A work of art can stand in the art gallery and be cherished for its own sake, as enjoyment that is not merely hedonistic.

But it has the possibility of a great number of functions that result from art being tied to reality with a thousand ties. It is exactly this last element that has been underrated by those people who spoke of  High Art as autonomous, for its own sake.

Artists do not need justification, just as butchers, gardeners, taxi drivers, police officers or nurses do not need to justify – with clever arguments - why they are doing their work.

A beautiful gift that the Lord has given me is the ability to paint, so I am training orphans and street children how to paint so that they can get income and depend on themselves in future.
