The origins of foods and processing techniques can be shabbily done – as explained in this blog on the origins of clotted cream tea and strawberry preserves.

Following a brief criticism of Wikipedia and BBC articles on the topic of both clotted cream and strawberry jam (referenced in his blog), the author notes:

 I really don’t want to put too much weight on any part of this, neither the unsigned BBC article, the `local historians’ it doesn’t name, nor the fifteenth-century narrative of late-tenth-century events it may be using…

Would workers in the 10th Century be fed bread, clotted cream, and (something akin to) strawberry jam as a daily fare?  Seems highly unlikely, as the author notes.
